Open Streets Festival presented by Schumacher Insurance 2016

Sunday, October 2nd 2016

“Schumacher Insurance Agency is very excited to be a part of the Montclair Open Streets Festival of 2016!

As President of Schumacher Insurance Agency, and a mom of an 8 year old little boy, I understand the importance of accident prevention, and the education of road safety.  With many distractions on the roads these days, children can be especially at risk as either a pedestrian or riding their bikes and scooters.  There isn’t a moment that goes by that I hope my son remembers to put on his helmet.

I hope that we can all come together to help our Montclair families and children to learn road safety as pedestrians, and future motorists.”

Honey Correia, President

Montclair is closing down Glenridge Ave from Bloomfield Ave to North Willow Street. We are celebrating life in an urban setting! The famous Tour de Montclair, a family friendly ride through Montclair, will start and end on Glenridge Ave. Pop-Up parklet – mini urban recreational and lounge spaces – will be featured. There will be an opportunity for you to make your very own parklet! Montclair State University will be giving tips on making homes and business spaces more sustainable. Bike Walk Montclair will be teaching about safety for kids. Live music will be provided by Montclair Center Stage. And so much more!

Families and individuals are encouraged to bike and walk, and making our streets more bike-and pedestrian-friendly. Cyclists of all abilities are invited to ride one of the Tour’s two routes: a 12 mile or a 6 mile route, all starting and ending at the Montclair Open Streets Festival on Glenridge Ave.

“Those who had assumed 12 miles was really long or that Montclair’s hills were too steep discovered that not only could they get around by bike, they discovered some really special places in Montclair that they could enjoy at a slower pace,” says Laura Torchio, Trustee of Bike Walk Montclair [by Montclair Patch]

Be part of building a parklet! A parklet is a sidewalk extension that provides more space and amenities for people using the street. Usually parklets are installed on parking lanes and use several parking spaces. Click on the link above to see what’s being proposed by Montclair Township.

On Sunday, October 2nd, we will be showcasing all the uses of a parklet. You’ll also have an opportunity to roll up your sleeves and make your own!

The amazing minds at Montclair State University will be helping our community learn how to save money and the environment. They will be sharing tips and strategies on making your home or business green. It’s also a great way to have your kids learn about what they can do to make Mother Earth breathe a little easier!
