Charles “Chip” McGrath is the esteemed former editor of The New York Times Book Review section and a contributor to The New Yorker. He will moderate a discussion about book reviews with fellow notable reviewers, Dwight Garner of The New York Times, and Joan Acocella of The New Yorker.
Dwight Garner is a book critic for The New York Times. He was also, for many years, an editor for The New York Times Book Review. His essays and criticism have also appeared in The New Republic, Harper’s, Slate and elsewhere.
Joan Acocella has written for The New Yorker, mostly on books and dance, since 1992, and became the magazine’s dance critic in 1998. Her books include “Mark Morris,” “Willa Cather and the Politics of Criticism”; and “Creating Hysteria: Women and Multiple Personality Disorder.” Her most recent book is “Twenty-eight Artists and Two Saints,” a collection of essays. She has written about dance, literature, and other arts for The New York Review of Books, the Times Book Review, Art in America, and the Times Literary Supplement. She is currently a fellow at the Cullman Center of the New York Public Library, where she is writing a biography of Mikhail Baryshnikov.
