Magic Door Recording is Montclair’s world-class, full-service recording, mixing and mastering studio, founded in 2017 with a singular vision: to create an inspiring space for capturing musical expression and experimentation in New Jersey’s most interesting town. Gorgeous acoustics, a curated combination of vintage and modern recording gear, an extensive microphone collection, and a compelling variety of instruments come together in a good-vibes downtown location, designed by legendary studio designer George Augspurger. It is the HQ for owner/producer Ray Ketchem, a longtime award-winning indie rock producer, whose recent projects have ranged from soup-to-nuts album recording, to mixing, to session work for a dynamic mix of clients such as Guided by Voices, Luna and Versus.
